Jess bit the dust this afternoon on more than 5 kilos of cocaine. Guilty of all counts, mandatory life. He manned up; two co-conspirators testified against him to avoid life. He kept his mouth shut. Love the guy. Hope I do the same when judgement day comes for me.

you mean when they find 5kg of cocaine in your possession?
ReplyDeletecheckout paul krugman today. great heads up on the opposition to carbon reduction.
you got 'er right Joel; and it costs ~$60,000.00 a year to keep a prisoner in the federal penitentiary
ReplyDeleteThink of the $$ we could save if we just paid each drug dealer $50k a year to NOT sell drugs, saving the taxpayers $10k per inmate per year.
ReplyDeleteInsane and impractical, but hey, so is the current war on drugs!
If Jess is a dealer, and I am sure that is what the government argued, ignoring the possibility that he had over 11 pounds of cocaine for his own personal recreational use, he was likely going to sell it. Assuming he could garner $60 a gram on the mean streets of Champaign-Urbana, he would realize roughly $60,000 per kilo or $300,000. I do not know what Jess' profit margin is, but I am willing to wager that he would net more than $50,000 on this one shipment alone. He would gladly accept the government payment, but I do not think he would retire from his business. Your father alluded to what may be the only solution in an earlier blog, but it is an idea which is anathema to all right thinking people.
ReplyDeleteSee you all in Appleton.
Love, Jeff
